Meme: Before and After [Update] by crys-art Meme: Before and After [Update] by crys-art
Edit2k15: added yet another 'after two year' remake! and apparently I had a bad sense of fashion even in 2013 xD

Edit: so I decided to redo this after a distance of another two years, it's always fun seeing how far I've got (still a lot to learn though :P)

----

My fashion sense was so strange XD

I'd have to say I like the pose of 2013 better but I'm loving the personality of your 2015 one. It's like 2013 is really pretty but 2015 feels like she's lazily saying hi so in a way, it feels more alive.

In my opinion 2013 is the best one. You've captured the movement & motion perfectly in that image.

2015 might as well be a completely different image. In terms of quality though you've definitely improved over the years.

they are all different images from each other if you really want to see it that way P: and the newest one is still a walking pose, just that cut at this height it doesnt seem so. But thanks regardless!

haha I was really into shugo chara in the period the first one (2009) was drawn, so it seems that the fashion sense persisted xD

Gotta say, you've progressed pretty well so far.
I'm really curious to see where will your style go in the years to come, but I can say with confidence that watching you here on DA was most definitely a good choice.

Keep up the good work Crys

Damn, gimme ur skillz.  Q_Q;  I need to do an improvement meme again.  I have a perfect piece sitting around waiting for love, but I think even if I did redo it it wouldn't show this much amazingness.  TT_TT

I'm having difficulty with line weights... any good tips/tutorials you can think of?

do it do it :la:

hmm well lines are usually thicker at the end where they connect with some other non-parallel line. Line wights are also use to somewhat describe the material of a thing, eg leather will have heavier and thicker lines while a lighter cloth will have thin lines. I usually add thickness after I have drawn the 'form', like for example I draw the fold first, and then see if it needs to be thickened at some point, hope this makes sense!

Yeah, these are some of the things I've been working on... but I get the feeling that maybe my lines are too heavy over all?!  TT_TT  I have such a hard time liking my lineart...

hmm...looking at your works though I would say your linearts and line weights are pretty good! and they are not too heavy at all either, so I think you're just concentrating on the wrong side :) what I see is that you lack a bit of experience with folds, and really often a single wrong fold may make your art look crappy. I think if you concentrate on that, you'll see a really great improvement!

Folds are definitely a weak point.  =w=;  Thank you so much for looking!  I've been in need of some good advice, but I don't have any artsy people nearby to ask.  QwQ;  Much appreciated.

I really love your style. Do you have any advice on how to get better? Could you give some tips on what resources you studied to get better? Did you simply look at others' work and drew every day? This is an inspiration to me. Thank you for posting.

Thank you! Well yes, looking at your inspirations and drawing everyday is the most important part of it! I usually concentrate on one area at time where I'm lacking, and therefore look for specific tutorials and observe real life situations, for example when I realize I lack at a particular face feature or particular type of folds, I do my researchers and stare at people when I'm not home haha hope this was helpful :)
